This passage centres on John the Baptist’s testimony to Jesus Christ. In John we see a wonderful example of a servant of Jesus and the kingdom of God – who glorifies Jesus and minimises himself. John the Baptist – who Jesus called the greatest man who ever lived – pointed to Jesus and rebuked his own followers who saw Jesus as a threat to John’s popularity. John glorified Jesus as the One who is from above, while regarding himself as nothing more than a lowly servant. Whether you are a CEO, star footballer, elder, pastor, mother, father, student or executive climbing the corporate ladder – you too are called to follow Jesus and glorify Him. This is how we are to live as born-again sons and daughters of God – members of the kingdom of God – whose entry has been won for us by nothing less than the blood of Jesus.
