This sermon was preached at WPB Belconnen’s morning service on Sunday, October 17. 2021. It was the second sermon in a series on the Book of Acts.
During Jesus’ ministry, He promised to send the Holy Spirit to His disciples to fill them and empower them. This gift was to be poured out on all who believe in Jesus, not just the apostles and preachers and evangelists. And what we see here in Acts 2 is the beginning of the fulfillment of Jesus’ promise to send the helper to be with His followers forever – the Spirit of truth. When the Holy Spirit arrives, for the first time in this amazing, permanent way, God announces His arrival with great and miraculous signs – the sound of a roaring wind and the sign of a great fire descending on the followers of Jesus even as the Spirit fills them. The result of this infilling is immediate joy and wonder and praise to God.
