This sermon was delivered at WPC Belconnen’s evening service on Sunday, September 5, 2021. The service was held remotely, via Zoom, as public gatherings at that time were forbidden, due to the pandemic.
This talk, which looks at various passages from Scripture, discussed how we can survive and even thrive in times of anxiety and stress, when we look to the Lord and the promises He gives us. God knows we are all prone to anxiety – the psalmists take their anxiety to God in prayer, our Lord Himself offers divine counsel and help to us in our anxiety in the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 6:25-34) and the New Testament letters are filled with truths about how God ministers to us in our anxiety. This talk examined four things that God’s Word tells us to do when we are anxious, worried or suffering from stress or burnout. And they are: Concentrate on the gifts God gives us; Consider God’s sovereignty and plans; Constantly trust and obey the Lord; and Comfort others who are hurting.
