This sermon was preached at WPC Belconnen’s Sunday morning service on October 10, 2021. This was the first message of a series on the Book of Acts.
The Book of Acts begins with Jesus returning to heaven – gloriously ascending to His Father’s side after completing His mission of atonement. Jesus has completed His ministry and atoning death for the sins of all who come to Him for grace. It was mission accomplished. God’s rescue mission – which He announced when the first humans disobeyed him and unleashed evil and death upon the world – was complete. And Jesus was now returning to His Father’s side in heaven. But while His salvific work was complete – and He had died once for all time for the sins of many – now it was time for the good news of this salvation to be proclaimed to all peoples – to the ends of the earth.
