Looking Forward Looking Back is a beautiful, melancholy song written by iconic Australian country music singer Slim Dusty late in his career. As Christians, we can keep a joy-filled perspective when we look forward and look back. We are to live looking back to the cross – remembering often that Jesus has done it all for us. God’s grace has appeared when He sent His Son to die for our sin. And we look forward to the appearing of the glory of God – when Jesus returns as Lord and Judge. In this passage, Paul exhorts us to walk in holiness, remembering that we are a people who live between two divine appearings. God’s grace appeared in Jesus’ incarnation – and His atoning death brought us salvation and redemption from sin. And we look forward to the appearing of Jesus’ glory – which will be revealed at His return.
