Trusting God in the face of suffering

Trusting God in the face of suffering

Speaker: Pr Darren Burnett

This sermon was preached at WPC Belconnen’s Sunday evening service on October 31, 2021. The Bible passage being expounded is Daniel 8.

In Daniel 8, we encounter a strange vision that God gave Daniel. This vision revealed to Daniel what would happen to the nation of Israel under the rule of the two empires to follow Babylon; Persia and Greece. And the most significant aspect of this vision was its warning of a wicked ruler to rise up in the Greek empire, a ruler who was a type of antichrist, an especially wicked man who would defy Yahweh and persecute the people of God in the same way the final antichrist will do. And even though the vision of Daniel 8 foretold in amazing detail events that took place in the intertestamental period, it is an important word for us today. Because the Church in every age will go through tribulation.  But God is on His throne. And evil rulers only have a short time in the sun. God always judges evil, and people who defy God and persecute His children always find themselves on slippery ground.
