When we don’t want Thy will to be done

When we don’t want Thy will to be done

Speaker: Pr Darren Burnett

This Bible talk was given at WPC Belconnen’s Sunday evening service on May 30, 2021. Adam read the Bible passage, Jonah 1:1-17, and Darren gave the Bible talk.

Jonah was a prophet of God who lived in Galilee in the north of Israel in the eighth century BC. And when Jonah is called to go 800km northeast to preach a word from God to Israel’s most hated enemy, Ninevah, Jonah rebels. In fact, he makes it clear – repeatedly – that he would rather die before God shows Israel’s enemies grace. As sinners saved by faith, there is a bit of Jonah in us all. Leslie Allen wrote, “A Jonah lurks in every Christian heart, whimpering his insidious message of smug prejudice, empty traditionalism and exclusive solidarity.”
