This sermon was preached at WPC Belconnen’s Sunday morning service on November 28, 2021. This sermon expounds Acts 6:1-7.
This passage narrates an account of a conflict within the early Church. There was a temptation here for the Apostles to take their focus off preaching the Word of God and instead focus on administrating the mercy ministries of the Church. But the Apostles dealt with the problem wisely – and ensured that the church’s practical ministries were supervised carefully – without taking the Apostles away from devoting themselves to preaching the Gospel and prayer. We see here that the Church of Jesus functions as God has planned for it to function when its members labour together – each using the gifts he or she has been given.
